Acuvue Vita contacts

Acuvue Vita contact lenses are a line of daily wear contacts from Acuvue, a brand of contacts and contact lens care products that is part of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.

The Acuvue Vita line includes two types of contact lenses:

• Acuvue Vita contacts – Daily wear soft contacts that come in packs of six or 12 lenses. These contacts can correct nearsightedness (myopia) or farsightedness (hyperopia).

• Acuvue Vita for Astigmatism – Daily wear soft contacts for astigmatism that come in packs of six lenses. These contacts can correct nearsightedness or farsightedness and astigmatism, a common condition that causes distorted vision.

Both types of lenses block UVA and UVB rays from the sun and use proprietary HydraMax technology, designed to distribute beneficial lipids throughout the lenses to maximize moisture and make the lenses comfortable to wear.

Your eye doctor will help you decide if Acuvue Vita contacts may be right for you and whether you would need Acuvue Vita contacts or Acuvue Vita for Astigmatism contacts.

Can you wear contact lenses if you have astigmatism?

You can wear contact lenses if you have astigmatism. Like nearsightedness and farsightedness, astigmatism is a refractive error that affects vision. Astigmatism is caused by slight imperfections in the cornea or lens of the eye that can cause unclear or distorted vision when looking at objects both nearby and far away.

Toric contact lenses, like Acuvue Vita for Astigmatism, are soft contacts specifically designed to correct astigmatism. These contacts are designed with different powers in different parts of the lens. Toric lenses rotate on the eye and settle into the right position to correct astigmatism. There are many soft contact lenses for astigmatism on the market today, including daily and extended-wear versions.

Is Acuvue Vita a monthly contact lens?

Acuvue Vita is a daily wear contact lens that must be replaced monthly. There are so many types of contacts available that terms like “daily contacts” and “monthly contacts” can get confusing. 

So let’s take a look at Acuvue Vita contacts wearing and replacement schedules:

• Daily wear – Acuvue Vita contact lenses are daily wear lenses, meaning they can be worn during the day while you’re awake but must be removed, cleaned and stored in disinfecting solution before you go to sleep.

• Monthly replacement – Acuvue Vita contacts are monthly replacement lenses, which means you can wear the same pair of lenses every day for a month. After one month of daily wear, you must throw the lenses away. 

How often do you change Acuvue Vita contacts? They must be disposed of and replaced with a fresh pair of lenses each month unless your eye doctor tells you to replace them more frequently. To keep your eyes healthy, follow all contact lens care and replacement instructions from your eye doctor.

Can you sleep in Acuvue Vita contacts?

You can’t sleep in Acuvue Vita contacts. They’re daily wear contacts, which means they can be worn during the day and must be taken out before you go to bed at night or before you take a nap. 

If you want to sleep in your contact lenses, you’ll need to get extended-wear contacts and get approval from your eye doctor. Popular extended wear contacts include Acuvue Oasys contacts, Air Optix Night & Day contacts and Bausch and Lomb Ultra contacts. 

But keep in mind that wearing contacts while you sleep can increase your risk of eye infections, so talk to your eye doctor about the benefits versus risks of extended wear contacts.

Acuvue Vita vs. Acuvue Oasys 

What is the difference between Acuvue Vita and Acuvue Oasys? Unlike Acuvue Vita contacts, which can only be worn while you’re awake, most of the lenses in the Acuvue Oasys line can be worn either as daily wear or extended-wear lenses. Acuvue Oasys contacts, Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism and Acuvue Oasys Multifocal contacts may be worn for either one week of extended wear or two weeks of daily wear.

Acuvue Oasys lenses may be an alternative to Acuvue Vita lenses for patients who are interested in trying extended-wear lenses or who sometimes accidentally fall asleep in their contact lenses.

See your eye doctor for new contact lenses

It’s important to see your eye doctor for regular comprehensive eye exams. If you need to get contacts or switch to a new brand, your eye doctor will help you find the right contacts for you with a contact lens fitting and possibly a free trial of a new type of lens. Once you’ve made your decision, you’ll need a contact lens prescription to buy your new contacts.
