FAQ: Are reading glasses covered by FSAs/HSAs?
Reading eyeglasses are eligible for reimbursement under a flexible spending account (FSA) and a health savings account (HSA). However, they are not covered under dependent-care plans — a pre-tax account used to pay for eligible dependent care services.
Reading eyeglasses are not designed to correct vision problems and, unlike prescription eyeglasses, are not designed for full-time use. Reading eyeglasses can also be purchased over-the-counter without a prescription.
Over-the-counter reading glasses are a good option for people who have good distance vision, but if you suffer from eyestrain or double vision you should consider prescription reading glasses.
Other eligible vision expenses include:
Contact lenses
Prescription eyeglasses
Prescription sunglasses
Eye care co-pays and deductibles
Routine eye exams
