Eye Doctors That Accept Medicare Near Me

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a health insurance program funded by the United States government. The insurance coverage is meant to accommodate people who are over 65 years old, have certain disabilities or are at the end stages of kidney failure.

There are various parts to Medicare that address different health services:

Medicare Part A (also known as hospital insurance) covers inpatient hospital stays, hospice or home health care and nursing facility care.

Medicare Part B (referred to as medical insurance) covers medical supplies, preventative care, outpatient care and certain medical services.

Medicare Part C (known as Medicare Advantage plans) are offered by private institutions rather than the federal government. You can opt in for Medicare Advantage to supplement the coverage you get from other Medicare parts.

Medicare Part D (also known as prescription drug coverage) helps to reduce the cost of certain prescription drugs. This includes all recommended vaccines and shots.

Because Medicare is a national insurance coverage, finding eye doctors that take medicare should be a relatively simple task, especially if you use the locator tool (below).

How do I find eye doctors near me that accept medicare?

All About Vision’s locator tool takes the guesswork out of finding eye doctors near you that accept medicare. Simply follow these steps and the locator will do the rest:

  1. Close out the Cookies Settings pop-up box at the bottom of the locator page. This will reveal a toolbar at the bottom of the locator with the option “Edit Search.” Click on this button.

  2. To determine which location you want to search, add your area code in the second bar where it says “Enter address or postal code.” You can also click the blue circle to the right of the address bar to use your current location.

  3. The third bar is for you to select your insurance information which, in this case, would be Medicare. Click the third bar and a drop-down menu will open. Scroll down the list of insurance providers until you reach “Medicare” and select it.

  4. Once all of the fields are completed, close the “Edit Search box” by clicking the blue “Find” button at the bottom of the page.

The locator also has a “Filter” button that allows you to specify what office hours are most convenient for you, how far you’re willing to travel for the appointment and other details.

This information will produce a list of eye doctors that fit all of your preferences, each with its own customer ratings and reviews.

Once you decide which eye doctor is the best fit, click the “Call Now” or “Book Now” button to schedule an appointment with a medicare eye doctor near you.

Does medicare cover eye exams?

Medicare Part B covers several eye care and vision costs, given that you meet your premium and deductible. In 2021, the standard premium is $148.50 per month, and the annual deductible is $203.

Unfortunately, eye exams do not fall under the eligible vision costs for Medicare Part B. Rather, eligible costs include cataract surgery, eyewear after cataract surgery, glaucoma screenings and ocular prostheses.

Medicare Advantage plans can cover eye exams as a preventive service. It’s likely that any eye doctors that accept medicare will also accept these plans.

However, since Medicare Advantage plans are provided by private insurance companies, it’s important to confirm with medicare eye doctors near you that your specific plan is accepted.

Make your vision a priority by scheduling an appointment with a medicare eye doctor near you!
